Vision Fitness Donates Equipment
for a Healthier Wisconsin

LAKE MILLS, Wis. - June 24, 2005
Vision Fitness, a fitness equipment company based in Lake Mills, announced earlier this year that it would donate fitness equipment to community center members who are top achievers in the Wisconsin Governor’s Winter Challenge. The Winter Challenge, a ten-week program designed to inspire individuals to become more physically active by registering online at www.wisconsinchallenge.org, was kicked off at the Lussier Family YMCA in Madison just after the New Year, challenging those who made New Year’s Resolutions to have healthier habits to utilize the Governor’s Challenge web-based tracking tool. The Winter Challenge follows last year’s successful Spring Challenge, which focused on Wisconsin schools and for which Vision Fitness also made a sizable contribution of fitness equipment. The Challenges are an ongoing initiative by the Governor’s Office that will continue for individuals, schools, workplaces, and community groups to use as a fitness incentive year-round.

During the Winter Challenge, over 6,000 Wisconsin citizens signed up, with over 2,000 completing an award program. Since the program’s inception in March of 2004, over 25,000 citizens, working as individuals or in one of 670 groups, have registered for the Challenge. Thanks to programs such as this, Wisconsin made a seven-place jump (tied for best improvement in the nation) this year from the 21 st to 14 th healthiest state according to reports from the Morgan Quitno Press.

“Vision Fitness is proud to be a partner in the Governor’s Winter Challenge and to help in the effort to make our home state of Wisconsin healthier,” said Greg Waters, CEO of Vision Fitness. “It brought us great pleasure to see the excited faces of the students who worked out regularly in order to get new equipment for their schools last spring. You could see the same look of achievement in the faces of the community center winners this year. Participants who completed the program, regardless of whether they received equipment or not, know they are winners, as they have improved their quality of life.”

Any individual who completed the program and requested their free certificate and gift from the Governor’s Office were entered into a drawing for a chance to win the Vision Fitness® exercise equipment, which included an exercise bike, an elliptical trainer and a treadmill.

The following Winter Challenge winners were announced at a press conference in Wausau on March 29 and eagerly accepted their Vision Fitness® equipment in May:

“I’m so excited to have won this treadmill from Vision Fitness,” stated Megan Singer after the T9700S was delivered to her parents’ house in Kenosha. “I’m looking forward to using it to keep up on my workout routine throughout the summer.”

There were many successes in the Winter Challenge, but more Wisconsin residents need to take the step towards an active and healthy lifestyle. Obesity is poised to overtake smoking as the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"This is a serious issue for Wisconsin," Governor Doyle said. "Over 60 percent of Wisconsin’s adults and kids are overweight or obese, and many are not getting any physical activity. I encourage all Wisconsin citizens to take advantage of www.wisconsinchallenge.org to get on the road to better health."

About the Wisconsin Governor’s Challenge
Governor Doyle launched this free, easy-to-use program to motivate everyone in Wisconsin to get active. The Challenge is 30 minutes of activity a day for adults and 60 minutes a day for kids, five days a week for six weeks. From gardening to running, there are over 100 activities to choose from, so there’s something for everyone—whether you are just getting started or staying active is already an integral part of your life. Visit www.wisconsinchallenge.org for more information or to register.
